Dear Colleagues,
the 15th International Workshop on Layered Phenomena in the Mesopause
Region (LPMR) and the 20th International EISCAT Symposium will be held
as a joint meeting in Sweden on August 15-19, 2022.
The LPMR workshop aims at advancing our understanding of mesospheric ice
clouds and related phenomena in the Earth’s mesosphere and lower
thermosphere, ranging from microphysics to the global and
solar-terrestrial processes controlling the region. The EISCAT Symposium
has its focus on incoherent scatter radar and on the
atmospheric/ionospheric science explored by this measurement method,
including the upcoming EISCAT_3D system. A goal of the joint meeting is
to bring the LPMR and EISCAT communities together, thus providing a
forum to learn more about scientific interests, recent advances and new
opportunities. The meeting will comprise both separate and combined LPMR
and EISCAT sessions.
The meeting will be held in Sundbyholm Castle at scenic Lake Mälaren,
approximately 80 km west of Stockholm. Note that the EISCAT-related
sessions will be held in a hybrid mode, thus also providing an option to
participate online.
For our planning, we very much would like you to submit a notification
of interest already now. You can specify how probable your participation
will be. Please check our Google form at

Dear friends of EISCAT-3D,
There are presently 5 open tenure-track positions as Assistant
professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Umeå University,
Sweden. Some of the positions may well go to physical sciences,
hopefully to space plasma physics.
Please, spread the word about this opportunity among your colleagues
in your institute and all over the world!
This is a six-year appointment for junior researchers and gives the
opportunity to develop a long-term research activity and to qualify
for promotion to an Associate Professorship (Senior Lecturer).
Starting date upon agreement. The application shall be submitted no
later than 23.59 Swedish time (CET) on February 15, 2022.
This is a great chance for anyone who wants to join the Umeå Space
Plasma Physics Group in Sweden. Some information about the group can
be found on:
https://www.umu.se/en/research/groups/space-plasma-physics-group/
The successful candidate should conduct research and contribute to the
continued development of the research environment in the
field. Applicants with a research plan that is linked to and/or
complements the department's research activities are given priority.
For further information about the space plasma physics research
environment at Umeå University, please contact Maria Hamrin,

Dear friends of E3D,
the 14th E3D User Meeting is being planned for some time in week 47 or
48, Nov 22-Dec 3. The UMs are mainly for E3D relatied science. This one
will be combined with the 2nd E3D Software and Data Workshop, including
a "hands-on" session where elements of the E3D user interface can be
tried. Attending in person at IRF/EISCAT HQ in Kiruna will be possible,
the alternative is on-line participation as for the previous meetings. A
1st announcement can be found at
https://www.space.irfu.se/workshops/EISCAT-3D_User2021-3/
Please vote for your preferred time slots at the doodle
https://doodle.com/poll/bmqcdurk7ev8hqkf?utm_source=poll&utm_medium=link
The combined meetings will probably be lunch-to-lunch. Of course it is
fine to participate only partially (UM or SW).
Best regards,
Stephan

Hello,
The first meeting of the Software Working Group will be held on Friday the
15th of October at 1300 CEST at the following zoom link.
https://uu-se.zoom.us/j/66923872019
The link has been kindly provided by Stephan B. If there are any problems with
the link, please check the slack group.
The purpose of the meeting is to form smaller groups focused on the following
themes
- Experiment design and visualisation
- Integration with other instruments
- Software tools and data communities
I will give a short introduction at the start of the meeting, but after that
we would really like to hear from you. Who would like to participate in the
groups and what wishes and experience they have.
As I don't know how many people will attend, I'd be grateful if you could
coordinate within your institute or University so that only one person speaks
on each topic. Otherwise there is a danger that we will run out of time.
See you all on Friday,
Simon
