Dear users of EGI Notebooks,
Next Wednesday 7th of September 2022 at 9:00 CEST, EGI Notebooks will upgrade its configuration to use the new Check-in OpenID Connect Provider.
During the change, the service won't be available, although running servers should keep running. Once the upgrade is finalised, you will be able to access the service as usual.
If you are relying on the access tokens automatically generated from the Notebooks (see https://docs.egi.eu/users/dev-env/notebooks/integration/#egi-services-acces… for more information), these will no longer be accepted in those services that have not migrated their configuration to the new Check-in OpenID Connect Provider. Let us know if you encounter any issues with any service.

Dear colleagues,
thanks to a great response from the Grid Community Forum experts,
backward-compatible version 6.2.9-8 has already appeared in EPEL 7
and should appear in EPEL 8 within a day.
FYI, version 6.2.9-9 is expected to bring a further desired change,
viz. support for OpenSSL v3 on EL9, in a backward-compatible way
and has already been tested on EL7 and 8.

please beware of the backward incompatibility of myproxy-6.2.9-7
that recently got published in EPEL, e.g. for EPEL 7:

It only works if both the client and the server are on that release!
As an upgrade of myproxy.cern.ch caused serious problems for ALICE,
that service has been downgraded to its previous version 6.2.9-1,
which also happens to be the latest in the EGI UMD-4 repository:
http://repository.egi.eu/sw/production/umd/4/centos7/x86_64/updates/
Grid Community Forum experts are looking into the best strategy for
introducing the desired improvements, hopefully in a way that would
keep backward compatibility with existing deployments.

Description:
FAIR EVA (Evaluator, Validator and Advisor) has been developed to check the FAIRness level of digital objects from different repositories or data portals. It requires the object identifier and the repository to check and it can be adapted to different contexts and environments. Developed within the EOSC-Synergy project it aims at helping data producers and data managers to evaluate the adoption of the FAIR principles based on the RDA indicators. This webinar will present the tool as well as show how it can be deployed, how the different tests works and how it can be adapted to different data systems.
Speaker:
Dr Fernando Aguilar is an Informatics Engineer, since 2011 participating in different national and international projects related to computing and data management. As a developer, he has implemented diverse visualization and data analysis and management tools within the context of water quality research in different water reservoirs in Spain. Furthermore, he has deployed different programs to warrant data quality. He has also participated in TRUFA (trufa.ifca.es) development, workflow of RNA analysis. As Database administrator, he has managed different researching databases integrated with instrumentation, including them in the data life cycle: gathering, curation, sharing, preservation, etc. He has been also involved in system administration tasks including the deployment and management of internal services or grid middleware. Within Cloud Computing context, he has participated in projects of implementing and deploying virtual machines and user oriented services, specially in many use cases in the Lifewatch Research Infrastructure, where he played different roles and performed actions including requirement gathering, final user and infrastructure linking, deployment of infrastructure and services supervising, etc. He has also participated in Research Infrastructures integration projects, like COOPEUS (in collaboration with American institutions), where he has worked in data integration and sharing using Semantic Web, metadata management and persistent identifiers (PIDs). In collaboration with Ecohydros S.L (SME), within ROEM+ (Life+) project, he has coordinated the deployment and computing of hydrodynamic and water quality models and he has managed and configured the data feeding the models. Currently he is doing his PhD thesis in Data Life cycle management in a Cloud Computing framework and he is involved in different Interest and Working Groups in the Research Data Alliance in that topic, including metadata use and management.

Description
One of the core reasons for having a green task force in this project is to identify and share good practice as regards green computing. With this in mind, we have planned a number of dissemination activities starting with this webinar. This first webinar will allow members of the task force to share their experiences with the wider community.
It will take the form of a series of "Lightning" style talks/provocations where targeted individuals who participated in the Green computing survey will share what they have done (and in some cases what that plan to do) when “Greenifying” their infrastructure and data centres (highlighting key problems and solutions along the way). These provocations will be followed by a question and answer session. It's a quick win for both the task force and the community.

I'm pleased to announce a new upcoming webinar form BioMed which is one of the biggest EGI communities in Life Science.The biomed VO is operated on the EGI infrastructure and supported by 15 sites, delivering access to a large number of heterogeneous resources. Title: The Virtual Imaging Platform: Scientific Applications as a Service and Beyond

The Virtual Imaging Platform (VIP) is a web portal for medical simulation and image data analysis. It leverages resources available in the EGI biomed Virtual Organisation to offer an open service to academic researchers worldwide. In March 2022, VIP counts 1380 registered users and about 20 applications publicly available. In the last few years, VIP has addressed interoperability and reproducibility concerns, in the larger scope of a FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) approach to scientific data analysis.
The presentation will give an overview of VIP and its main interests for the audience: (i) use existing applications as a service on VIP, (ii) import your own applications to make them available to the community, (iii) benefit from EGI biomed resources in a transparent way and (iv) foster open and reproducible science.
The presentation will be followed by two demos, one focusing on useful information on joining VIP (home page and account creation/EGI Check-in authentication) and the second one on the main VIP functionalities, such as executing an application and monitoring its status.

Dr Sorina Pop is a CNRS research engineer at Creatis since 2007, currently in charge of the Virtual Imaging Platform (VIP), which counts more than 1300 registered users. Since her Ph.D. degree in 2013, her activity has been focused on optimizing the execution of medical image processing applications on heterogeneous distributed systems. In the last few years, she has been particularly interested in enhancing open and reproducible science through her VIP activities, but also through other projects such as the EU OpenAIRE-Connect and EGI-ACE projects and the France Life Imaging (FLI) platform, where she is member of the steering committee of the Information Analysis and Management node. She is also manager of the biomed Virtual Organisation and member of the EGI-ACE Project.
Axel Bonnet is a CNRS research engineer at Creatis since 2016. After he obtained his computing engineering diploma at Grenoble INP-Ensimag in 2011, he worked for 5 years in different companies, improving his skills in software architecture and software quality on many projects. He integrated Creatis in 2016 as a CNRS research engineer and has worked on the Virtual Imaging Platform (VIP) ever since. His main tasks concern developing new features on VIP, focusing on interoperability with other platforms through a REST API.
Alexandre Cornier is a new member of the VIP team as a CNRS engineer working on the EGI ACE project, more precisely on the authentication part, support and design of neuroimaging applications. He obtained his master 2 in Bioinformatics in 2021 after having done a 6 months internship at Inserm (Magendie Neurocenter) in the Cortical plasticity team. He worked in particular on the project of Dr. Ourania Semelidou on the atypical sensory responses in Autism Spectrum Disorder to develop a full data analysis pipeline.
