EISCAT Scientific Association is looking to employ a Head of Science to join the staff at
EISCAT Headquarters in Kiruna, Sweden.
This vacancy is for a senior scientist.
The Head of Science will take an active and leading part in the research programmes and in
the continued development of radar methods and data analysis techniques relevant to
EISCAT. Additionally, the Head of Science will liaise with current and new users and user
groups interested in the fields of research to which EISCAT data can contribute. He/she
will furthermore represent EISCAT and promote EISCAT research capabilities at
international conferences such as EGU, URSI, etc. The Head of Science will also be
expected to develop and lead an in-house research programme using the EISCAT or related
facilities and attract competitive research funding. The Head of Science reports directly
to the EISCAT Director.
Applicants will possess a Ph.D. in physics, geo-space or atmospheric science and will have
at least ten years demonstrated work experience in research and research support, of which
some are in leadership roles. Experience from working with or using EISCAT installations,
measurements and related research are essential. Demonstrated ability in capacity
building, and attracting or managing competitive research funding are essential. The
ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English is essential, and
knowledge of any Nordic languages is an advantage.
