Dear friends of EISCAT,

The PITHIA-NRF project has an ongoing open Trans-National Access (TNA) call. This is a great opportunity for you to gain access to, and experience with, instruments and data that may normally be difficult to obtain. See the information below.

Please feel free to redistribute this opportunity through your normal channels.

Kind regards,

    Anders Tjulin

Access to PITHIA-NRF NODEs

If you are interested in space physics or space weather, or you are working with technologies influenced by the space weather, then PITHIA-NRF is the place to be. It is a network of research infrastructures (NODEs as we call them) that focus on the research in the field of upper atmosphere and near-Earth space.
Trans-National Access (TNA) through PITHIA-NRF is a way for you to gain new skills and knowledge, or for you to test your ideas on data and/or instruments at the PITHIA-NRF NODEs.
The fourth round of PITHIA-NRF TNA call is now open, and will remain so until 15 June 2023. The applications are evaluated on a rolling basis as they are received, so you will know the result of your application in the frame of a couple of weeks.

Advantages of taking part in the PITHIA-NRF TNA:

  • A unique opportunity to learn about instruments, data and models of your interest
  • Training and support from experts in the field are included in the access
  • Good possibilities also for a project of smaller scale, such a Master thesis or as part of a PhD project.
  • Physical access or Remote access sessions for one work week (the extent of remote access sessions is flexible based on agreement with relevant NODE)
  • Support of the project available for up to 6 months from its start
  • Possibility to apply for access to multiple NODEs
(we encourage using data and models from other NODEs of PITHIA-NRF during your access to the primary NODE and you will receive support for those as well)

Evaluation of applications, conditions and advice for the application process:

Your application will be evaluated based on the following conditions:
Eligibility

  • You have to apply to a NODE outside of your country of residence
  • No professional connection with the NODE should exist, and you should not be able to gain access through other common connections
  • You need to be able to disseminate the results of your research

Feasibility and Scientific review:

  • Contact your chosen primary NODE, or the PITHIA-NRF TNA centre, to inquire about feasibility of your project before you write the application, as this will raise the chance of successfully applying for and finishing your project.
  • It is easy to aim for too much, be careful about the extent of your project as the access time is limited
